This page is designed to answer the
common questions regarding your responsibility as a citizen of the
United States of America in Broward County Florida.
The Clerk of Courts, Howard C. Forman has
been charged with administering the jury system in the Seventeenth Judicial
Circuit. The Jury Administration Program provides a sufficient number of
qualified, prospective jurors to the ninety (90) judges of Broward County for jury trials.
The Program is responsible for issuance of jury summonses, juror orientation,
excusal, qualification and disbursement to courtrooms. Jury Administration operates a central Jury Assembly Room
(located in the Judicial Complex, Room 380) to
coordinate these duties. This office also provides any additional services required
by those individuals selected as prospective jurors.
Once in court, jurors will be qualified by the presiding judge and attorneys
through the "voir dire" process, to select the individuals who will sit and
hear the evidence of a trial.
One of the fundamental
principles guaranteed us as American citizens by the Constitution are the right
to a trial by a jury of peers.
It is your duty as a citizen to serve
when summoned for jury service.
In Broward County, you are selected for
Jury Service from a Florida Driver License Database of US citizens who are
residents of Broward County and are 18 years of age or older.
Jury Service is based on:
"ONE TRIAL OR ONE DAY
This means your service is required for
the duration of one trial or that you are available
for service for one entire day.
You may only serve as a juror once in
a calendar year.
