Clerk of the Courts - Broward County 17th Judicial Circuit of Florida

 Jury Service

This page is designed to answer the common questions regarding your responsibility as a citizen of the United States of America in Broward County Florida.

The Clerk of Courts, Howard C. Forman has been charged with administering the jury system in the Seventeenth Judicial Circuit. The Jury Administration Program provides a sufficient number of qualified, prospective jurors to the ninety (90) judges of Broward County for jury trials.

The Program is responsible for issuance of jury summonses, juror orientation, excusal, qualification and disbursement to courtrooms. Jury Administration operates a central Jury Assembly Room (located in the Judicial Complex, Room 380) to coordinate these duties. This office also provides any additional services required by those individuals selected as prospective jurors.

Once in court, jurors will be qualified by the presiding judge and attorneys through the "voir dire" process, to select the individuals who will sit and hear the evidence of a trial.

One of the fundamental principles guaranteed us as American citizens by the Constitution are the right to a trial by a jury of peers.

It is your duty as a citizen to serve when summoned for jury service.

In Broward County, you are selected for Jury Service from a Florida Driver License Database of US citizens who are residents of Broward County and are 18 years of age or older.

Jury Service is based on:
"ONE TRIAL OR ONE DAY

This means your service is required for
the duration of one trial or that you are available
for service for one entire day.

You may only serve as a juror once in a calendar year.

As a juror, or prospective juror, free parking is provided adjacent to the Judicial Complex. A garage across the street from the Judicial Complex on Southeast Third Avenue and Sixth Street (3rd Ave. & 6th Street) has reserved parking for jurors. Entrance is on Third Ave (East side of bridge) If you own a high clearance vehicle such as a high-top van or recreational vehicle, you will not be able to park in this garage.

As a prospective juror, you are required to be in the Jury Assembly Room in the Judicial Complex by 7:45 AM on the day you are to report.

Once you have parked your vehicle in the garage, proceed to the pedestrian walkway on the third (3rd) floor of the garage. This walkway will provide you with covered access to the third (3rd) floor of the Judicial Complex between the North and East wings.

All persons entering the Judicial Complex, even prospective jurors, are required to submit to a security screening. This will include passing through a metal detector and placing any items being carried through an X-ray machine. Please keep in mind that even certain everyday items (scissors, pocket knives, etc.) may not be permitted in the Judicial Complex.

After going through the security check, proceed toward the corridor on your left: the East Wing. The Jury Assembly Room is located in Room 380 of the East Wing. It will be the first entrance on the left, just down the corridor, directly across from the restaurant.
